When you’re feeling kind of down, and you’ve lost your inner clown When your pink is turning blue, and you don’t know what to do, You need some hair of the cat. When your jumping beans won’t jump, and you’re feeling like a grump. When the sky is looking gray, and your life’s no cabaret. It’s time for hair of the cat. It’s that rollick, frolic, tumble, jumble, zipping, flipping play. It’s the creeping, leaping, jumping, bumping, whirling, twirling way. It’s a wheeling, reeling, gliding, sliding, razzle-dazzle day. It’s the hair, it’s the hair, of the cat. When you’ve lost your four-leaf clover, and you feel like rolling over. When your tippy just won’t top, and your belly does a flop, Go get some hair of the cat.

Sunlight filtered through the trees. I could not see the wide horizon, I could not see beyond ancient trees. I could not see orange fields of poppies, or golden hills, or skies deep blue. I could not see shining emerald cities, or double rainbows in the dew. So if you find me, and you’re not too weary, take me to the river, to its gentle shore. And if I know you I will take your hand then, and we’ll be together forever more. And we’ll emerge into the sunlight, and we will float above the trees. And we will sleep beneath the moonlight, and we will soar across the seas. So if you find me, and you’re not too weary, take me to the ocean, to its sandy shore. And if I know you I will take your hand then, and we’ll be together forever more. And we’ll live strong on our green hillside, and share our luck with those in need. And let us forge for those who follow another path out from the trees. So if you find me, and you’re not too weary, take me to the river, to its gentle shore. And if I know you I will take your hand then, and we’ll be together forever more. Yes come and find me, I will not be weary. We’ll go to the ocean, to its sandy shore. And I will know you and I’ll take your hand then, and we’ll be together forever more. And I will know you and I’ll take your hand then, and we’ll be forever together more.

Thanksgiving weekend has come and gone. Last chance to soak up the sun. Hanging with our friends in a house by the sea; storing up some vitamin D. It’s getting dark early, it’s staying dark late, it’s almost time to hibernate. Speaking of Thanksgiving, I just want to eat. I’m still hungry, won’t you pass me the meat. A little more potato and a lot more pie; feeling peckish, I can tell you why. Because it’s getting dark early and staying dark late, it’s getting to be time to hibernate. Getting dark early, and it’s staying dark late. Getting dark early, and it’s staying dark late. I think it’s getting to be time to hibernate. Just can’t seem to get enough sleep. I dig into the covers, soft and deep. Cranked up the alarm clock as loud as it’ll go. It doesn’t seem to help, I still wake up slow. It’s getting dark early and staying dark late, it’s getting to be time to hibernate. Getting dark early, … I don’t want to do nothing but hibernate.

Let It Go 02:37
Are you mad? Do you feel bad? Have you been had or are you trying not to feel sad? Are you mean? Do you vent your spleen? Do you yell and scream and generally make a scene? Why don’t you let it go, let your better nature show. Stop and watch a child grow, take a breath and exhale slow. Let it go. Are you blue? Are you coming unglued? Is everyone picking on you? Do you see red? Do they mess with your head? Are you tired of stuff up with which you’re fed? Why don’t you let it go, let your better nature show. Plant a seed and watch it grow, take a breath and exhale slow. Let it go. I’m trying to get outside my head. Try to see somebody else’s view instead. If I can think about someone who isn’t me, I can be free. Are you stressed? Is it all a mess? Do you always feel like you’re taking some kind of test? Are you tense? Are you trying to make sense…. of a world that puts you on the defense? Why don’t you let it go, let your better nature show. Stop and watch a child grow, take a breath and exhale slow. Let it go. I’m trying to get outside my head. Try to see somebody else’s view instead. If I can think about someone who isn’t me, I can be free.

Brave Hearts 04:13
I heard a story of a young turtle. His name was Franklin, he was scared of the dark. He couldn’t sleep ‘cuz he was scared of his shell too. So he went on a journey but he left his shell parked. He braved the wilderness to ask the animals how not to be scared, as he brushed back his tears. But everyone told him he’s not the only one. Everyone told him they’ve got their own fears. That turtle had a brave, brave heart. He had brave, brave heart. I know some kids, they’re smart and they’re strong but when their Moms get sick they don’t know what’s going on. It’s a little bit scary, makes you want to put your thumb in your mouth, or maybe yell or cry, or cuddle up close. But instead you make your bed, you help your brothers and sisters. Take your backpack and go out and be who you are. Go to school and be brave, and save up your stories. You can tell your Mom you were a star. Those kids have brave hearts. You know they do, they have brave hearts. They’ve got such brave hearts, it breaks my heart to see such brave hearts. I know some guys, husbands and fathers. When their wives get sick they have to keep going on. Be Dad and Mom too, hold it all together. Though they’re scared inside, they’ve gotta stay strong. They have brave hearts. I see they do, I see such brave hearts. And what of these women, bedrock of families; their tubes and their chemicals, and hospital beds. They still make the birthday cake, and smile for others’ sake. And keep their own fears locked up tight in their heads. ‘Cuz they’ve got brave hearts

Until, Until 02:32
It’s four o’clock, and all is still. We’re fast asleep; until, until… The footsteps pound, the tables shake. t’s urgent now. Awake, awake! It’s four o’clock, and all is still. We’re fast asleep; until, until… Crashing noises, pungent smells Get up, get up! The rampage swells. It’s five o’clock, and all is still. We’re fast asleep; until, until… Tumbled fights, and crazy squalling. Come on, come on, the sky is falling! It’s five o’clock, and all is still. We’re fast asleep; until, until… Running, jumping. Leaping, thumping. Hurry, hurry. Pulses pumping! It’s six o’clock, and all was still. We tried to sleep; until, until…IT’S TIME TO FEED THE KITTENS!

Waves 04:20
Tiny waves in gentle rhythm Play songs of sunshine on crystal sand. They follow one upon another a peaceful army, a brothers’ band. And we can be that peaceful army, we can be that brothers’ band, Singing songs of sunshine, marching hand in hand. These waves aren’t loud, they are not mighty They trip and fall before they stand. And yet they move the towering mountains With each caress they move the land. And we can be that peaceful army, we can be that brothers’ band. Singing songs of sunshine, marching hand in hand. Though we’re not loud, we can be mighty, we can be strong, we can be pure. We can follow one another onto that waiting shore. Like tiny waves in gentle rhythm We can play on crystal sand. We can move the towering mountains Marching hand in hand. And we can be that peaceful army, we can be that brothers’ band. Singing songs of sunshine, marching hand in hand. Though we’re not loud, we can be mighty, we can be strong, we can be pure. We can follow one another onto that waiting shore.

Black Cloud 03:20
There’s a black cloud knocking at my door. There’s a black cloud trying to get in. There’s a black cloud staring in my window. There’s a black cloud thinking ‘bout sliding down my chimney. Oh no, black cloud. Oh no, black cloud. I got blue sky trying to break through; I got blue sky kissing off the rain. I got blue sky where I can fly too. I got blue sky dusting off my brain cells. Oh yes, blue sky. Oh no, black cloud. Don’t want black cloud knocking at my door. Don’t want black cloud trying to get in. Don’t want black cloud staring in my window. Don’t want black cloud thinking ‘bout sliding down my chimney. Oh no black cloud. Oh yes blue sky. I got sunlight sitting on my shoulder; I got sunlight burning up the sky. I got sunlight busting up the shadows. I got sunlight lighting up the buttercup under my chin. Yes! Sunlight! Oh no black cloud. Step back black cloud, get away from my door. Step back black cloud, you’re not getting in. Step back black cloud, get away from my window. Step back black cloud, don’t even think about my chimney. Oh no black cloud. Oh yes, sunlight.

Did you ever notice, in all the best songs. Did you ever notice, in all the best songs. Somebody’s getting hurt, someone’s doing somebody wrong. Somebody’s walking out the door, and someone’s left behind. Somebody’s walking out the door, and someone’s left behind. Left behind lonely, left behind crying. Somebody’s losing a piece of their heart. Somebody’s losing a piece of their heart. Lying alone in the cold and the dark. Did you ever notice, did you ever listen hard? Did you hear the tears in their words and the holes in their hearts? Did you ever wonder why they felt so blue, did you ever wonder if it would happen to you? I bet you did, I bet you noticed ‘cuz it’s in all the best songs.

Got spammy email filling up my inboxes, voicemail cramming up four phone lines. Instant messages on half of my computer screen, the rest is streaming the latest headlines. I don't do Facebook, I don't do Twitter. My life doesn't have enough glamour and glitter to make it interesting to anyone but me. If I have anything to say I should write a diary. There's so much static, there's so much noise, but I love my gadgets, I love my toys. I can use 'em for good, I can use them for evil. And it doesn't have to be all about me. Well it’s enough to drive me mental – I should just write instrumentals. There's so much static, there's so much noise, but I love my gadgets, I love my toys. I can use 'em for good, I can use them for evil. And it doesn't have to be all about me. Well if I wasn't sentimental, I could just write instrumentals. Remember when a diary was something that you locked, a place to store your most private thoughts, or maybe just to list what you did today. Now everybody's talking but does anyone have anything to say. There's so much static, there's so much noise, but I love my gadgets, I love my toys. I can use 'em for good, I can use them for evil. And it doesn't have to be all about me. Well it’s enough to drive me mental – I should just write instrumentals. There's so much static, there's so much noise, but I do love my gadgets, I love my toys. I can use 'em for good, I can use them for evil. And it doesn't have to be all about me. Well if I wasn't sentimental, I could just write instrumentals.

Went on vacation, and wanted to go to the beach. The parking lot was full, the ocean was out of reach. So we got back on Highway One, all our plans undone. Now we got a flat tire on the second day. To get it fixed we had to drive all the way back north up to Monterey. Driving slow on the spare at least we got some ocean air. Next we pulled out these maps of trails we wanted to use. But a sprained ankle gave us those Can’t-Hike Blues. Instead we walked around in the dust; it was kind of a bust. But then we saw this band called 17 Hippies, from Berlin. Though I think there were only 13 of them. They had accordians rocking to music that sounded kind of Balkan. And there were Big Sur spirits dancing there in the Spirit Garden. And we found the cutest little gas station that you ever did see. Course it was the only one around for miles so it looked pretty good to me. And it had Big Sur spirits dancing next door in the Spirit Garden. And we found this funny little house called the Henry Miller Library. A couple of rooms chock full of books, they were hanging from the ceiling. They had their own Big Sur spirit dancing there in their Spirit Garden. And next we saw four ladies painting in a row by a wall. We turned around to see what it was that they were painting, it was this stunning waterfall. They had their own Big Sur spirit dancing there in their Big Sur Garden. Then one night there were wild turkeys just strolling across the lawn. So we stayed up and watched them and played cribbage until we started to yawn. By then we had our own Big Sur spirits dancing in our Spirit Garden. So if you hear about a band called 17 Hippies from Berlin Go see them, even if there are only 13 of them. ‘Cuz they’ll bring you Big Sur spirit, they’ll bring you that Big Sur spirit, we all need that Big Sur Spirit dancing in our Spirit Garden.

My dear, what are you wearing? Is it satin? Is it tulle? It’s got shine and it’s got lustre. Keeps you warm but looks so cool. It matches any outfit. It fits like second skin. Goes with plaid and goes with stripes, and it makes you look so thin. It’s on your coat, it’s on your hat. It’s everywhere, it’s on this and that. It’s the hair, it’s the hair, it’s the hair, it’s the hair of the cat. It’s oh so very elegant, but you can wear it every day. It’s fancier than denim, but less brash than gold lame. It’s on your coat, it’s on your hat. It’s everywhere, it’s on this and that. It’s the hair, it’s the hair, it’s the hair, it’s the hair of the cat. My dear, what are you wearing? Is it satin? Is it tulle? It’s got shine and it’s got lustre. Keeps you warm but looks so cool. It’s on your coat, it’s on your hat. It’s everywhere, it’s on this and that. It’s the hair, it’s the hair, it’s the hair, it’s the hair of the cat.
