I Had a Thought

from Hope and Fear by Englewood

lyrics

I had a thought.
At the time it seemed very important.
Such a thought -- so important I would never forget it.
What a thought -- something needed to be done or said or something.
So glad that I thought of this timely and important thing.
But by the time I went to write it down it was forgot.
What was that thought?

I had a cup.
It was in my hand a minute ago.
Such a cup -- it was my precious first cup of joe.
What a cup -- just the way I like it, deep brown, dark roast,
Hot, steaming, smelling like a morning's supposed to smell.
But now it's lost somewhere inside this house forever.
Where is that cup?

I don't think I've lost all of my marbles.
I'm pretty sure I have most of my mind.
But I suspect my brain needs a vacation
Or some hibernation time.
Hibernation time.... Hibernation time...

I had a word.
Just the perfect word to finish up my sentence.
Such a word -- caught the flavor and the meaning and the essence.
What a word -- of all the many words I know it was the best one
To communicate perfectly my information.
But before it made its way to my tongue it was gone.
What was that word?

I don't think I've lost all of my marbles.
I'm pretty sure I have most of my mind.
But I suspect my brain needs a vacation
Or some hibernation time.

I don't think I've lost all of my marbles.
I'm pretty sure I have most of my mind.
But I suspect my brain needs a vacation
Or some hibernation time.
Hibernation time.... Hibernation time...
