If I Had a Pickup Truck

from Here I Go Again by Englewood

/

lyrics

If I had a pickup truck,
that I drove through the dust and the muck into town each day,
if I had a tar-paper shack by the river
with fly paper windows half torn away,
If I had a dog named Boo, the kind of dog
who might be missing an ear or two
If I caught my dinner each night from the river
and washed it all down with a beer or two,
Then I’d have the background to sing the blues,
and I’d have a dog to sing them to,
If I had a pickup truck….

But I drive a hybrid and it’s pretty shiny except for maybe a ding or two.
And I have a redwood house up in the woods on a hill,
with big windows and with a view.
And I take the subway into the city, work at a computer in a cube-
icle, come home and drink some wine with my honey
and make a nice dinner for just us two.
So I don’t know much about the blues,
and I’d guess our cats probably think that too.
But if I had a pickup truck…

If Boo and I drove into town in our pickup,
we’d stop at a diner for breakfast I think.
I’d order the eggs and bacon to share with Boo;
bottomless coffee for me to drink.
But I like my fresh ground French roast in a press
or sitting in Peet’s at a table for two.
And then I come home and read the newspaper,
with room on my lap for a cat or two.
So you see why I can’t sing the blues
because I’ll never have a dog named Boo.
But if I had a pickup truck….

If I had a pickup truck….
