It All Started Yesterday

lyrics

It all started yesterday.
None of us knew what to say.
So we sat around the table making idle conversation with our eyes.

It all started yesterday,
Or maybe it was Saturday.
There was something that we heard that made us think we'd better wear our best disguise.

The sky was getting darker and our hearts were getting heavy.
The wind was blowing colder and the water breached the levee.
We sat around the circle tightly gripping someone's hand on either side.

The bushes started burning and the icecaps started melting.
The rivers started flooding and the hailstones started pelting.
We ran until our feet bled, we were desperate but we found no place to hide.

It all started yesterday.
A day just like all other days.
Or at least that's what we thought until the lightening of uncertainty struck through.

It all started yesterday.
The shadows seemed to block our way.
So we ran around in circles hoping somebody would tell us what to do.

We didn't see it coming since it wasn't supposed to be like this.
We spent our money freely and enjoyed our ignorance in bliss.
We let our gods die lonely in abandoned ruined churches far away.

We didn't pay attention while the beauty died around us.
The music of our souls was lost. We let the chatter drown us.
You couldn't really blame it when the Truth packed up its bags and left today.

It all started yesterday.
And maybe it's too late today,
to start the terrifying, long, and bloody painful process of rebirth.

It all started yesterday.
Please grant us just another day.
To hold each other closely while we mend our broken hearts and souls and earth;
To hold each other closely while we mend our broken hearts and souls and earth.
