Sleepless

from Hope and Fear by Englewood

lyrics

They're sleepless in Seattle,
They're sleepless in L.A.
I'm sleepless here in Oakland, California, USA.
I'm jealous of my buddy who can
sleep the day away.

I'm staring at the ceiling,
It really is a bore.
I'm listening to the chorus
Of tiny feline snores.
Maybe if I was a cat
I'd get to fall asleep once more.

Maybe all us sleepless ones should have a quiet Zoom,
Gallery-view beacons lighting up the moonlit gloom.
Sleep-deprived faces glowing blue in darkened rooms.

I tried counting forwards,
Then backwards three by three.
I tried counting animals,
I think that they were sheep.
I tried not to try so hard
to get myself to sleep.

Maybe all us sleepless ones should have a giant Zoom,
Gallery-view beacons lighting up the moonlit gloom.
Sleep-deprived faces glowing blue in darkened rooms.

I finally decided
It's not so bad a thing,
To lie there in the quiet,
And think about my blessings,
And all the things I'm grateful for
Including tiny feline snores.

Maybe all us sleepless ones should have a quiet Zoom,
Gallery-view beacons lighting up the moonlit gloom.
Sleep-deprived faces glowing blue in darkened rooms.
