The Ones Who Walked Here Before

from My Light True by Englewood

/

lyrics

Do you sometimes catch a shadow when you open up a door.
Do you sometimes hear an echo
when you walk across the floor.
You hear the sighs and the whispers
of the ones who walked here before.

This cabin looks empty, the hinges barely hold the door.
There are boards missing,
as you try to step your way across the floor.
But that’s not how it looked
to the ones who walked here before.

So stop, close your eyes, and listen to the music and the lore.
Read the stories, imagine their lives, and their loves,
and their yearnings for more.
And one day you’ll join the ranks
of the ones who walked here before.

Sometimes stop to think of those
you’ve loved who’ve passed on.
Remember their light, and how they made you feel less alone.
And while there’s still someone to think of them
they’re not wholly gone.

So stop, close your eyes, and listen to the music and the lore.
Read the stories, imagine their lives,
and their loves, and their yearnings for more.
And some day you’ll be one of those,
one day we’ll all be one of those;
Remember, remember those who walked here before.
