Today I Read Your Notebook

from My Guitar is Calling Me by Englewood

/

lyrics

Today I read your notebook from the distant past.
Your mind came alive to me, again at last. And
As you might say in one of your poems,
I can’t do you justice with words alone.
So hear my heart.

I’ve finally reached the day
When I can think of you in peace.
I’ve finally reached the hour
When I can think of you at peace.
My anger and heartbreak have gone to rest,
And now I only feel your love deep in my breast.

You’ve come to me, my brother, when I need your grace.
I’ve called on you, my brother, from my earthly place.
And every time it seems, my message gets through.
And then things work out somehow and I credit you,
Because you hear my heart, I know you hear my heart.

Today I read your notebook from the distant past.
Your mind came alive to me, again at last. And
As you might say in one of your poems,
I can’t do you justice with words alone.
So hear my heart. I know you hear my heart.
