Too Many Russian Songs

from Random Shuffling by Englewood

/

lyrics

I've been listening to too many Russian songs.
I don't know about you, but they always kind of make me long
For something that I never lost; I never bore that heavy cost,
But something in the melody seems to haunt and shadow me.

I've been listening to too many dark blues.
I don't know about you, but they make me think of those I lose.
Over all the years, so many people become dear.
Over all those days, so many die or move away.

Maybe at our very core, we always feel alone.
Maybe tunes of longing resonate within our bones.
Maybe hearing all those sad chords lets us reach our hand out
To the lonely infant sleeping in our souls.

I've been listening to too many sad songs.
I've been thinking about too, too many bad wrongs.
But sometimes too much darkness makes our inner baby cry
For everybody's loneliness, buried deep inside.

Maybe at our very core, we always feel alone.
Maybe tunes of longing resonate within our bones.
Maybe hearing all those sad chords lets us reach our hand out
To the lonely person standing by our side.
