Blue Sunset
03:43
|
|||
Are you on a constant vigil, senses heightened, nerves alert
To every nuance in the tea leaves, distillate the news from dirt.
Adrenaline is spiking with each headline of a viral tweet.
You cannot tear yourself away from reading each new crime and cheat.
You need to go and find yourself some blue sky.
When you're on your guard because
you can't decide who's friend or foe,
you have to keep deciding when to fight,
or keep your head down low.
You cannot put your phone away
you have to give it one last look
You swear you're going to turn it off but
can't just sit and read a book.
You've go to find yourself
Some blue sky...
And a blues high
And a blue sunset in your mind's eye...
I've got to strike a balance if I'm going to stay strong for the long-haul.
Keep my garden tended to while keeping up the good fight for all.
To swing the arc towards justice is a fight I do not fight to alone.
So if I need to take a break I'll come back rested, come back strong.
So I'll just take this moment to find some
Blue sky
And a blues high
And a blue sunset in my mind's eye....
And a blues high
And a blue sunset in my mind's eye.

I Remember When
02:33
|
|||
I remember when
there was no such thing as alternative facts.
I remember when
there wasn't some guy trying to play president by telling lies.
I remember when everyone knew that science is true
I remember.
I remember when
science wasn't secret.
I remember when
the truth wasn't treason.
I remember when park
rangers didn't have to go underground
to send facts around.
I remember when we all were trying to save the planet.
Today we're told to pretend
we haven't damned it.
And so I wake up every day
Searching for what I can do or say
To make all of this go away
Or at least preserve us for another day.
I remember when
we had freedom of the press.
I remember when
we had freedom to protest.
I remember when
we had freedom of religion.
I remember when
we knew long division.
I remember when the statue of liberty opened her
arms to the masses yearning to be free.
I remember.
And so I wake up every day
Searching for what I can do or say
To make all of this go away
Or at least preserve us for another day.

We Need it Now
02:38
|
|||
Everything is crazy now. It feels out of control
I have to do something, but what, I don’t know
I don’t know where to start.
I don’t know where to go.
I have to hold on to something that is true.
I can’t just hide away; I can’t give in to blues,
I can’t give in to blues.
I need to find something true.
What the world needs now is love sweet love,
they used to say.
A sappy song, but now we
Need it more today.
Now. We need it now.
Love can help us turn enemies to friends.
Love can give refugees homes instead of tents.
Love can tear down walls.
Love will tear down walls.
Tear down the walls.
What the world needs now is love sweet love,
they used to say.
A sappy song, but now we
Need it more today.
Now. We need it now.
What the world needs now is love sweet love,
they used to say.
A sappy song, but now we
Need it more today.
Now. We need it now.

To the End of Time
04:39
|
|||
Your warm breath, your warm heart,
Your warm cheek resting on mine…
It soothes me, it moves me,
Reminds me all will be fine.
I can’t sleep. The dark creeps,
Moving too slowly towards sunlight.
I hold you, you hold me.
I’ll hold you to the end of time.
I know when it feels like hard days, it will turn out ok.
I know when it’s all looking down, it will turn back around, ‘cuz
I’ll be there holding you
To the end of time.
I found you, you found me.
We found ourselves somewhere along the line.
We’re so much better when we’re together.
We lift each other up high.
Your warm breath, your warm heart,
Your warm cheek resting on mine…
It soothes me, it moves me,
Reminds me all will be fine.
Yes, I know when it feels like hard days, it will turn out ok.
I know when it’s all looking down, it will turn back around, ‘cuz
I’ll be there holding you
To the end of time.
I know when it feels like hard days, it will turn out ok.
I know when it’s all looking down, it will turn back around, ‘cuz
I’ll be there holding you... I'll be there holding you...
Yes, I'll be there holding you
To the end of time….
To the end of time….

Dark Ages
03:17
|
|||
It’s the start of dark ages.
It’s the start of bleak stages.
Can we sort out the truth from the lies?
Can we ensure that the truth doesn’t die?
It’s the start of dark ages…
Once again some of them have declared war
On the helpless – the old, the sick, the poor.
Yesterday our leaders had compassion and morals.
That’s been replaced by ignorance and quarrels.
Dark ages…
I’m going to have to work to right the wrongs.
I’m going to have to write some protest songs.
I’m going to have to hold my head up high.
I’m going to have to work so the truth doesn’t die.
To fight dark ages…
As this new day dawns, it feels like night.
And I can’t yet see an end in sight.
I know we’ve seen bad times before,
Somehow this darkness seems much more
like the start of dark ages.
But I will keep up the fight.
I will protect what’s right.
I will protest the wrong.
I will, I will stay strong,
Fighting dark ages.
We’re going to fight dark ages.
Yes we will fight the dark ages.

Re-Engage My Soul
03:02
|
|||
Leaving the office one last time
I turned to see what I left behind.
Trophies on the shelves, medals on the wall,
Files full of paper. But, Baby, is that all?
Is that all?
What used to mean something, now it means nothing.
What used to mean everything, doesn’t mean anything.
How it all can change, when your view gets rearranged.
Now it’s all the same, but it all seems kind of strange.
It could be time for me to go
And follow where my river flows.
It could be time for me to leave,
So I can live, so I can breathe.
It’s time to make a new start.
It’s time to re-engage my heart.
It’s time to take a new train.
It’s time to re-engage my brain.
Cuz, what used to mean something, now it means nothing.
What used to mean everything, doesn’t mean anything.
How it all can change, when your view gets rearranged.
Now it’s all the same, but it all seems kind of strange.
It’s time to look back to the sky.
It’s time to spread my wings and fly.
It’s time to find a new role.
It’s time to re-engage my soul.
Re-engage my soul.

Another Day
03:23
|
|||
Another day, another terrible headline.
another day to put my armor on and step up to the front line.
Our friends and neighbors live in fear of being sent away.
Our old and sick in fear of death if they can't pay.
I will not sleep tonight,
If I don't put up a fight.
Hold my hand while we
Make this stand, it will
Make us whole while we
Rest our souls, and we'll
Live to fight another day.
Another day, another week, another month, another bad guy.
Another blow against our people and our values and our blue sky.
Our highest values live in fear of being sent away.
Our quest for higher knowledge dies if we will not pay.
I will not sleep tonight,
If I don't put up a fight.
Hold my hand while we
Make this stand,it will
Make us whole while we
Rest our souls, and we'll
Live to fight another day.
Another day, another terrible headline.
Hold my hand....
Another day to put my armor on and step up to the front line.
Make this stand with me.
I will not sleep tonight.
We'll make us whole
If I don't put up a fight.
And we'll rest our souls.
And we'll live.
And we'll live.

My Newest Me
04:06
|
|||
Once upon a time or maybe yesterday
I stumbled on a way to earn my pay.
Learning something new and fun each day
Felt like play.
I was so blessed in every way. Now I'm
On the road to somewhere, I don't know where,
On my way to meet my newest me.
Once upon a time or maybe yesterday
I worked long days to make my way.
Countless years and hours and joys and friends
I've loved since then.
And today's not the end, since I'm
On the road to somewhere, I don't know where,
On my way to meet my newest me.
I'm on the road to somewhere, destination nowhere,
On my way to meet my newest me.
I've been saving up some karma for a rainy day.
Or maybe I did something good for somebody once, one day.
I really can't say.
But I'm feeling pretty lucky to strumming ukulele today.
Once upon a time, or maybe it's today
I'll figure out way
To pay my blessings back.
I see countless ways to help someone in need.
If I do a good deed, or two
Can I pay a little of that debt back?
While I'm on the road to somewhere, I don't know where,
On my way to meet my newest me.
On the road to somewhere, destination nowhere,
On my way to meet my newest me.

How Many Souls
04:14
|
|||
How many times must we lose our friends.
How many times, before this ends.
How much more blood will have to be shed.
How can we keep on just counting the dead.
When did our neighbors’ lives become so cheap,
That we sacrifice them without even losing sleep. When did
money and guns become more valuable than lives.
Have we lost our souls while we closed our eyes?
How many souls have died for our sins?
We never noticed the flames, while we played our violins.
How many souls are we willing to lose?
And later we’ll be horrified while we watch the news.
How much more blood? How much more pain?
How many more who we’ll
never see again.
How many more times to rationalize
empowering evil, ignoring the cries.
How did we learn to be deaf, to be blind?
To forget the next day, to just say “never mind”.
Why aren’t we rising as one to say no?
When will our souls finally be allowed to grow?
How many souls have died for our sins?
We never noticed the flames, while we played our violins.
How many souls are we willing to lose?
And later we’ll be horrified while we watch the news.
How many souls? How many souls?

Once I Saw You
03:19
|
|||
Once I saw you in the new formed fingers
of a tiny baby.
Once I saw you in the deep brown eyes
of a handsome lady.
Once I saw you in a rain cloud.
Once I saw you laughing out loud.
Once I saw you.
Once I saw you in the sunlight
streaming through the redwood trees.
Once I saw you at the ocean
drifting in the foggy breeze.
Once I saw you in my father/mother,
Once I saw you in my sister/brother.
Once I saw you.
Now you've formed a rowboat navy.
Now you've formed a human chain.
Now you're lifting strangers out of
Flooded lands to safe terrains.
Now I see you in the hearts of people
being strong and kind.
Once I asked for you to hold me.
Once I felt your love enfold me.
Once I felt your warmth flow through me.
Once you gave me power to be me.
Once you made me.
Once you saved me.
Once
I saw you.
Now you've formed a rowboat navy.
Now you've formed a human chain.
Now you're lifting strangers out of
Flooded lands to safe terrains.
Now I see you in the hearts of people
being strong and kind.
Now you've formed a rowboat navy.
Now you've formed a human chain.
Now you're lifting strangers out of
Flooded lands to safe terrains.
Now I see you in the hearts of people
being strong and kind.
Now I see you in the hearts of people
being strong and kind.
